I have a small pile of writings and script ideas, but it was not until after my mother’s passing that I had a full script in mind.
I was flying back to Canada and the whole story, from beginning to end, materialized in my head.

After bouncing the concept off of some (writer) friends to much support, I started writing, with the goal to be finished
before 2020 was over, while the events were still fresh in my mind. The end result is a poignant, compassionate
and darkly humorous look at a mother’s dying wish, seen through her son’s eyes.

Synopsis for ‘Nothing But Time’:

Shortly after having celebrated his parents’ 60th wedding anniversary with his family, Julian receives the devastating
news that his mother Georgia has advanced lung cancer. While his sister and father care for Georgia in their native Holland,
Julian is following the situation closely from his home in Canada. When Georgia’s situation worsens she calls the family
together for one last wish; to die with dignity at home, with the assistance of her trusted physician.

Reunited once again, the family celebrates Georgia’s last birthday together. Once a date is set for Georgia’s passing,
Julian is keen to spend as much time with his mother as he can, but his sister Anna is fiercely protective of the little energy
Georgia has left. Trying to make the most of the situation, Julian’s wife Saskia comes up with a series of trips for the two
of them, visiting milestones from Georgia’s past. Meanwhile, Georgia’s health deteriorates as she gets her affairs in order
and says goodbye to her closest friends.

Georgia and her husband Joel are a united front throughout the ordeal, but will Joel be able to stay strong, especially when
Georgia’s brother wants to make sure nothing is left unsaid. In the days leading up to Georgia’s planned death the family wavers
between feelings of love and grief, affection and reflection, with sides of good wine, cheese and chocolate, sprinkled with
dark humour throughout.
